Eating Out in Chicago

Considering its size, it isn’t surprising to learn that there are well over 6,000 restaurants, cafés and eateries in Chicago. These range from Thai restaurants, to pizza and burger ‘joints’ and steakhouses serving the most succulent pieces of meat you are likely to find in any of the fifty states.

Steakhouses and Italian restaurants, where the pizzas are legendary, are the ‘windy city’s’ specialities. If neither culinary category gets your taste buds watering, the choice of Thai, Chinese and other styles of restaurants, will ensure you won’t end the evening on an empty stomach.

To have the widest range of restaurants to choose from, go to the Loop area in the city centre. Everything from all-American restaurants to German restaurants are in this suburb. Other suburbs which provide a good range of eateries are Near North and the River North Districts and, of course, Chinatown.

If you are on a tight budget, some restaurants may be out of your league. Search hard enough and you will find loads that prove to be excellent value. For the most cheap and cheerful way to fill up, get a hotdog smothered in sauce and filled with pickles and onions from one of the stands on the street. That will be one meal you won’t forget in a hurry!

This restuarant may be a bit of a chore to get to, and the queue may be a bit off-putting if you go there during lunch hour, but the cajun-style food served here will make it all worthwhile. And if cajun food doesn't appeal to you, then this restaurant serves run of the mill diner food also.
